It’s Bey Day time, people, and we’re ready to celebrate one of the most bold, badass, confident women of them all. We hear it again and again, you have as many hours in the day as Beyoncé, so we sought to find a group of women who are truly proving that point. Borrowing inspiration from the woman of the hour, we’re serving up a reminder that attitude knows no age limits. These women may have hit retirement age but they certainly show no signs of stopping. Allow us to introduce you to Glenda, Skeeter, Gongyi, Wendy, and Kuniko—living proof that badass never goes out of style.

GLENDA GOLDWATER: BADASS LIBRARIAN, SUPPORTER OF LOCAL ART, HAS A SWEET SPOT FOR THE FRENCH

Flawless_8260_v3Glenda, do you have any words of wisdom for us?

As you know I was a librarian with the US Army and had the opportunity to live all over Europe. Those experiences showed me that it’s tough to give advice; some of the best lessons you have to learn the hard way.

What are some of the things you’re passionate about?

Justice. Economic justice, environmental justice. I’m passionate about the impact of drilling in Alaska, rising unemployment rates, and that it’s just wrong for 1% of people to have all the money.

What is the thing you are most proud of about yourself?

I am living a wonderful life.

SKEETER GREENE: TRIPLE THREAT (SINGER, MODEL, ACTOR) + DAMN GOOD ROLLERSKATER

Skeeter, if we gave you a soapbox, what would you shout about?

I feel very passionately about politics. I follow it closely. I really wish people knew how important it is to vote, and how much of their power they give away when they don’t vote, or they vote carelessly.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Wild. Strong. Beautiful.

What is the thing you are most proud of?

The relationship I have with my husband. We’ve been together 25 years and we have an amazing connection. We met when I auditioned as a backup singer for his band in L.A. One night I was at home with no plans, so I called him up and asked him out. And that was that!

Skeeter is wearing The Bardot Blazer and The Cunningham Trousers.

WANG GONGYI: MULTI MEDIA ARTIST, FREE-THINKER, + THOUGHT PROVOKER

Gongyi, can you share any words of wisdom with us?

Don’t rush into things, don’t rush your decisions. Be open to opportunities and enjoy the process. Open your mind, open your eyes. You will surprise yourself.

Tell us something no one knows about you.

Every time I see a street artist, I give him money. You know why? Because he is the same as me. He is like me. We have to support each other.

What are you the most proud of about yourself?

I was born in Tianjin, China during the political and cultural unrest of the communist revolution, but even in hard or difficult times, I never forget my art. I never stop making art no matter how hard it is. Even when people stop caring about your art, or stop looking at it, or when you lose inspiration, you cannot ever give up. You cannot ever quit.

WENDY WESTERWELLE: ACTRESS, COMEDIAN, + ONE WOMAN TOUR DE FORCE

woke_up_8016_v2

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Courageous. Hilarious. Empathetic.

Who are the women who inspire you?

Well, I’m going to do a one woman play about former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir in 2017 and I’m obsessed with her. My favorite quote is from her: “Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life.”

Complete the sentence: “I wholeheartedly believe…”

I believe it is a moral obligation to look fabulous at all times. It doesn’t take money, it just takes effort! I meet so many people and start so many conversations because of how much I smile and how I dress.

Wendy is wearing The Ryder Double Breasted Blazer and The Poitier Pant.

KUNIKO WEBER: ARTIST, BUSINESS BUILDER, MAKES KILLER RISOTTO

Run_the_world_7881_v2

Do you have any words of wisdom for us, Kuniko?

Whatever you do, always do your best. Give it everything you have. Leave nothing on the table.

Can you tell us something most people don’t know about you?

I studied art in college and I love to doodle. I draw caricatures of people and send them little greetings cards on their birthday with the caricatures. I just did one for my mother for her birthday.

What are you the most proud of about yourself?

I was an artist in Japan. When I moved to America, I took a job in a totally new industry, bringing Japanese businesses to Ohio. I built strong relationships, people liked working with me, they trusted me, and by the time I retired over 65 Japanese businesses had moved to the U.S. I’m really proud of the relationships I built and the impact I had on local economy.
