These 6 stories will give you a brush with FAME (Free Speech Jan. 2018)

Welcome back for another round of everyone’s fave storytelling event: Free Speech! Now that we’ve all recovered from the holiday hangover and have a slight grip on the new year, we were ready to dive back in to some stories of FAME. We heard tales of the spotlight, of recognition, of desires. By the end of the night, I’m pretty sure we all were seeing stars. 

Audience members filed in Wildfang West to soak up our 6 renowned storytellers as they fulfill their ‘claim to fame’.

Without further ado– I present: Mary, Alo, Jolie, Hayley, Michal, & Missy.

***CONTENT WARNING– THE 5TH STORY, TITLED ‘GIRLS TO THE FRONT (BUT NOT ME)’, INVOLVES SEXUAL ASSAULT 

 

1. MARY NUMAIR: “DEAR PLANNED PARENTHOOD”

Mary is a generally kind and tall person that writes humor. She is raising her nephew and two house cats. She’s the top result when you google “Portland Yeast Infection”…take a listen to find out why.

 

2. ALO ESQUIVEL: “CHASING RHONDA”

Alo is a shark advocate; loves motorcycles and one day will be like Indian Larry; her role model is Ronda Rousey; she’s the VP of Las Leonas Motorcycle Club AND is in process of opening up a motorcycle community garage so be on the look out (hopefully this summer!) Her story reminds us that it isn’t the result that will have you ready for a fight, but instead the process.

 

3. JOLIE BROWNELL: “GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO BE BADASS”

Jolie Brownell is the 18 year old author of a book titled “Me Too” and is well on her way to becoming a Motivational Speaker. Jolie shares her story on giving herself permission to go out there and achieve her dreams, despite the doubts and fears.

 

4. HAYLEY P: “DEAR SANTA”

Hayley works with numbers in excel doing inventory planning. In her spare time, she performs improv at Curious Comedy Theater and reads fantasy novels. Her story touches on her attempt and failure to achieve a childhood dream of being famous.

 

5. MICHAL MESA: “GIRLS TO THE FRONT (BUT NOT ME)”

Michal Mesa is a veteran of the US Marine Corps. She teaches 5th grade to special needs kids. Empowering women is her M.O. She is founder and president of Las Leonas Motorcycle club, a group of ladies that focuses on helping and supporting each other.

 

6. MISSY CAPONE: “WELCOME TO MY HOUSE”

Missy Capone is a Jersey Shore native and mother to two gifted black cats. She is a Marketing Director in Beaverton and in her spare time likes to drink chocolate milk, run in animal onesies, and play in the ocean & snow. Missy talks about fame-ish stories passed down through a family of fake famous people.
