Rise to the Occasion: Halloween Gone Wild

Does the thought of scrambling together a last minute Halloween costume scare you more than a pack of hungry werewolves in the middle of a lunar cycle? Fear not, Wildfangs, ’cause we’re showing you how to transform the tomboy essentials you already have in your closet into 5 of the most memorable, costume-worthy pop-culture moments of 2015. From a zip-up hoodie to a white button up, we enlisted a few members of the Wildfang team to help demonstrate how to turn your basics into some spooky-good Halloween get-ups.

Yeezy 2020, am I right?! In a year filled with, um, interesting presidential candidates (*cough* Donald Trump *cough*), Kanye’s ultimate mic-drop moment at this year’s MTV VMAs is definitely one we didn’t see coming. And ’cause it’s never too early to start campaigning, Halloween is the perfect night to suit up in your K. West best and spend the evenings shaking hands and kissing babies. Just throw on your favorite oversized tee with some joggers and a pair of sneaks and you’ll have everyone saying, “I’ma let you finish, but [insert name here] had one of the best costumes of all time!”

Speaking of award shows, can we talk about Amy Poehler at the Emmys? So, so good. We can barely remember who else was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy because we were too busy virtually high-fiving Amy Poehler’s hoodie and sunglasses amid the sea of perfectly made-up faces. Zip up, lean back, and pour some out for our girl Leslie Knope!

We’re pretty sure there’s a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking… but you definitely wouldn’t know it from this costume! We almost collectively fell out of our chairs when Derek and Hansel popped up in the middle of Valentino’s runway last March to announce the impending Zoolander 2. To stage your own blue steel walk off, all you need is a trench coat and your bestie (and possibly an appearance from Mugatu demanding a non-foamy latte).

Proving, yet again, that there’s nothing creepier than children who don’t blink, the towheaded, blood-guzzling, vampire youths from American Horror Story Hotel are officially the most terrifying thing on television. Fortunately for the rest of us, all we need to creep everyone out this year is a black blazer and the possible threat of exsanguination. Like 50 Cent said, “You can find me in the club, bottle full of blood…” No? Meh, close enough…

Turns out all you need to reach the stage of enlightenment is a white button up and khakis. We kid, we kid! But the world’s final goodbye to Don Draper was definitely one of the most iconic pop-culture moments this year. The formerly mad man went full zen, surrendering his signature suits in favor of a more California-casual vibe as he meditated overlooking the Pacific Ocean alongside his friendly neighborhood gang of hippies. Easy-peasy costume, and, let’s be honest, there’s nothing scarier than a zen Don Draper.
