Ah, the struggle of finding the perfect button up… We can all relate, right? Whether it’s battling the dreaded chest gap or that inevitable question of to tuck or not to tuck, finding the right fit and features in this closet staple is like the hunt for the Holy Grail. To help our tomboy sisters out, we took 3 of our most popular fits and road tested them on a couple resident Wildfangs. Shout out to Alanna and Lauren for helping us dial in the perfect fit on our fave button ups!

“This exclusive style is a dream come true for us curvier girls. It has a great fit around the hips and chest with no pulling or gapping in sight. It seems to run a little snug in the arms, so if you’re a babe with muscles you may want to size up.”

“I’m pretty obsessed with any shirt that has a box pleat at the back—that tiny bit of extra room makes it a solid pick for a lot of different body types. Bonus: the longer length is great for layering well into fall.”

“I sized down in this classic menswear style for a more fitted look. It’s a little snug in the hips but unbuttoning the bottom button was the perfect fix and offered a comfy, laid back look to boot.”

“I really dig the no frills look of this button up. The clean lines suit both my style and my body type, especially across my broader shoulders—score!”

“This OG Wildfang style is for sure one of my faves. The fit is a bit looser around the hips so I’d probably tuck it and rock a more pulled-together, dapper look.”

“A boyfriend fit like this is a killer option for anyone with a straighter frame like me. I love the roomy sleeve and a quick roll made it the perfect length.”

  1. I loved seeing your button down shirts on a short, curvy model. I often look at clothes on your sight and wonder what they would look like on someone with larger breasts or rounder hips. Now I know! So often “tomboy” or “androgynous” style clothes are modeled by boyish looking models — those lucky girls with flat chests and narrow hips. For me, at 5′ 1″, 115 pounds and a size 30 D, those clothes just aren’t going to look the same or hang the same on me as they do on the typical androgynous model. Seeing your model Alanna made it easier to imagine buying one of those shirts for myself. Great job! Thank you for including women who look just like women in my neighborhood on your site. Because of that, I’m much more likely to make a purchase in the future.

    • Nancy, thank you so much for the positive feedback! We are always working hard to find new ways to improve Wildfang for our diverse and wonderful group of tomboys. We’re so glad to have you part of the fam! xxxx

  2. What size is Alanna wearing? This will help me visually gauge my fit.
